Never take short cuts; always follow through on all corrections and the requests you make upon your dog. Example- if you make a request to your dog to sit and he doesn’t, make sure you follow through with the enforced sit using all three steps every time.
IGNORING YOUR DOG’S REQUEST:
Ignoring is an act only displayed by the ALPHA. Example: when your dog jumps up
on the couch when you are on it, push him off without saying a word and ignore
his request to join you. If you want him on the couch with you, continue to
ignore until your dog has given up and went on his way. Later you can choose to
call him over and invite him up. Only push him off if he is physically trying
to get up, otherwise just ignore his request until he gives up.
Remember only the Alpha will make the request.
TERMS:
Everything must be on your terms. If you acknowledge a request from your dog, you would be reversing the ALPHA ROLE.
Example: When you come home and let your dog out of his kennel, he may be excited and
jumping all over you requesting that you give him attention. Ignore him until he settles down , then praise by calling him to you. This would be on your terms. If you have a
large dog, and he is jumping on you, correct by using
your knee to push him off balance and don’t say a word.
Example: When your dog comes to you and places his head under your hand asking for you to pet him. Ignoring his request is the right thing to do.
Later on when your dog is not asking for anything you can call him over and pet
him.
REMEMBER:
Kennel your dog when you or a responsible adult are not home to maintain consistency with your dogs behaviour and schooling.
Avoid forcing him to be territorial by allowing him to roam free in your home or back yard without supervision. This would be telling your dog he is the Alpha and protector of the family. This will in time bring out his natural instinct to protect with the use of aggressive behaviour.
Correct all negative behaviour such as barking, lunging, growling, biting, every time, by using the neck and growl method.
